Shixian Taibai Liquor

According to Li Dao-yuan's “Shui Jing Zhu”records, the Three Gorges area in the Spring and Autumn period that produced the famous wine Ba Xiang Qing (Ba Xiang village located in the left bank of the river, the villagers are good at making wine, so commonly known as “Ba Xiang Qing”).
Shixian Taibai Liquor was named after Li Bai, a famous poet of the Tang Dynasty.

In 759, Li Bai was implicated in the dispute between the Prince Yongwang Li Lin and the Crown Prince Li Heng, so he was exiled to Yelang (Guizhou). After arriving in Wanzhou, Li Bai stayed there, he especially loved Wanzhou Daqu wine. Later, when he was granted amnesty by the court, and he wrote the famous poem “Leaving at dawn the White King crowned with rainbow cloud”,when he returned from the Three Gorges area.

To commemorate Libai, later generations named Wanzhou Daqu wine Shixian Taibai Liquor. The distillery has been destroyed and rebuilt many times during the war.

In 1917, Mr. Bao Nianrong, the founder of modern Shixian Taibai Liquor, spent a lot of money to buy the cellar mud and mother distillery of Wen Yongsheng Wine workshop with 400 years of history, combined with the ancient winemaking skills inherited from the Tang Dynasty. And he returned to Wanzhou to rebuild the distillery and develop until now.

Since it was designated as the “Wine for the 10th Anniversary of the National Day” at the Qingdao Wine Evaluation Conderence in 1959. Shixian Taibai Liquor has won many honors, such as China’s high-quality Wine,Gold Medal of the National Wine Evaluation、the Fifth Sichuan Famous Wine、and Chongqing Famous Liquor.

In 2006, Shixian Taibai Liquor created “Shengshi Tang Dynasty Wine”, which was deeply loved by customers. 

On January 27, 2014, Chongqing Municipal People's Government published “The List of the Fourth Batch of Representative Items of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Chongqing.” The traditional brewing technique of Shixian Taibai Liquor was listed in the fourth batch of representative projects of Chongqing intangible cultural Heritage, becoming one of the famous representatives of Chinese liquor.
